Digital Photography / Video Class,

Charter Alumnus Michael Valadez paid the Film class a visit, sharing stories
of his recent experiences in the entertainment industry. Valadez graduated
from Charter in 2004, and later attended the Art Institute of California
where he studied video production while working for Blizzard Entertainment.
The company creates video games such as StarCraft & World of WarCraft,
which sent the charter boys into a tizzy. Valadez played a trailer, which
he had worked on, advertising the newest Blizzard game. The class then
took advantage of the question answer session to learn more about possible
career opportunities and paths to entering the industry.

Pageant crowns
new Miss Escondido

By: JEFF FRANK - Staff Writer North County Times
Elizabeth Ferrin (ECHS Student) says she enjoys meeting
people. That's a good thing, since she'll be doing plenty of that in her
new role as Miss Escondido 2007.
Elizabeth, 17, a senior at Escondido Charter High School, won her crown
Saturday, topping a field of seven contestants in the annual pageant at
North County Church of Christ. Sara Schrader and Rachelle Acker were first
and second runners-up, respectively.
This was Elizabeth's first pageant entry. She called it a great experience,
"nerve-wracking, but exciting," going through the competition.
"Everyone was so nice. It was a good experience overall. I really
enjoyed it," she said. "I'm ready to get started."
Elizabeth, daughter of Jim and Nikki Ferrin, enjoys performing in theater,
riding horses, and is very involved in service activities at Emmanuel
Faith Community Church. Her good works include teaching in Taiwan and
helping to build houses in Ensenada.
She hopes to attend either UC San Diego or UC Davis, with the goal of
becoming an equine veterinarian.
Elizabeth also claimed the photogenic, interview and director's awards.
Still, she was surprised to hear her name called as the winner.
"I was pretty shocked. It was overwhelming. I didn't realize at
first it was me," she said. "I didn't think I'd have much of
a chance because I was the youngest of my age group, and this was my first
time."

Mr. Grady's class wins:

The local chapter of Blue
Star Mothers of America held a fund raiser at ECHS to raise money
for military families. Every first period class was asked to bring in
donations. The funds will be used by local military families to help defray
shipping costs when sending care packages and Christmas Gifts to their
currently deployed loved ones. Thanks to all that donated and congratulations
to Mr. Grady's class for raising the most funds for this worthy cause.
