September 11, 2006

On September 11, 2006, Escondido Charter High School held an assembly to commemorate
the thousands of lives that were taken as a result of the horrific terrorist
attacks committed on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon,
and in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001.
Students demonstrated their patriotism and school spirit by wearing red, white and blue for this memorial assembly.
Before the formal assembly, ECHS students gathered on the athletic
field and stood in a formation that spelled out:
“Never Forget 9-11-01.” Students from Heritage
K-8 Charter School also participated by standing around the perimeter of the
lettering to form the border. Once the students were in position, an aerial
photograph was taken by ECHS staff member, Joe Darrough, with the help of several
members of Escondido’s Fire Department. With the caption,
“Land of the Free…Home of the Brave!”, copies
of this special photo/poster will be sent to President Bush, the Pentagon, the
Mayor of New York City, and the Mayor of Shanksville, PA.
After the photo was taken, the formal assembly began with an inspirational song performed by two bagpipers. Next, the Heritage K-8 band students demonstrated their musical skills by playing “America the Beautiful” followed by the Heritage K-8 choir singing “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” The talented ECHS choir finished the musical portion of the assembly by singing “America.” Coach Dennis Snyder, ECHS’ Executive Director, extended thanks to the members of the Escondido Fire Department for their participation and help with the aerial photograph, and then spoke to the students about the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001. Coach Snyder then commended the students for the hard work they have completed during the first four weeks of this new school year.
The assembly concluded with the bagpipers playing “Amazing
Grace.” An appropriate ending…
We will NEVER FORGET “9-11-2001”!
