PLAYOFFS WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 20TH

The LADY WHITE TIGERS face off against the Lady Eagles of Santa Fe Christian High School. Their record is 20 - 7. The first Lady Tiger play off game is at ECHS vs. SFC at 7pm. We would like the ECHS family to come support their Lady White Tigers filling the gym with more fans than Santa Fe can handle. It should be an exciting game!
~ Coach Jay Luce

The regular season is finally over. What a season. I can say that as a team we have gone through our moments of trials, our share of growth in learning from our experiences and spent some great times rejoicing in our victories. We ended the season with a loss to Preuss. Not bad considering we played 25 games, 2 tournaments, ended up with a 13 - 7 varsity record, a 19 - 7 overall team record (to include 6 JV games), 11 - 1 home record, and an 8 - 1 league record to become the Frontier League Champions! Wow. These young ladies have done a tremendous job representing Escondido Charter high school and have set the standard for the future of Lady Tigers basketball. How awesome they were to coach. Each lady brought their talents, a willingness to learn, and came together to accomplish what no other team has accomplished. Winning a League title. The first team in school history, in any sport. Not to brag, but I am extremely filled with joy as to what they have done.

Our first play off game is next Wednesday the 20th. We will not know who we play untill this Sunday. Once we find out, we hope that where ever we go, that ECHS will show their pride by coming to the game and rooting on our Lady White Tigers in their first play off game!
Again, the coaching staff of Coach Chris Keyser, Coach Jay Luce, Coach Micha Keyser, and the players would like to that the faculty, the students, the parents, and the cheerleaders for helping us make this season so memorable and exciting. Thank you for your support and love for the girls. As a coaching staff we can't express how proud of these young ladies we are.
Thanks to Coach Snyder for getting a gym built for us to play in! Thanks to Coach Brose for his help in developing the athletic program. Thanks to Mr. Krause for developing the website so the kids can see the fruits of their labor.
~ Coach Jay Luce

We are happy to announce that your Lady White Tigers are now the Frontier League Champions!! The LWT have one game left, away @ Preuss at 4:30 pm at the Old UCSD gym. It would be cool to have a crowd there to help encourage our girls to victory. Then the Lady White Tigers will be in the play offs for the first time in girls basketball history at ECHS. Once we get all the details we will let you know when, where, and what time. We appreciate all the support from the parents, student body, faculty, and cheerleaders. Please root on the Lady White Tigers to encourage them to go beyond what they can imagine and keep the dream alive to go far into the play offs. Thanks Coach Luce

On Wednesday we ended up crushing the Maranatha team 77 - 12. Natasha Keyser had 26 points, Nicole Van Otterloo & Jessica Gavin had 14 points each, Sophie Robinson had 12 points, Samantha Budvarson had 7 points and Sofiyah Kadoura had 4 points. Very fun to watch and very easy to coach that night. Tonight is a huge game against our cross-town rivals, Calvin Christian and then next Monday is a huge game against Sierra Madre Academy for the Frontier League title. Both games should be exciting and we hope to have the whole school in attendance to cheer on the Lady Tigers!
Thanks Coach Jay

This season has been both challenging and rewarding, watching these young ladies grow in their love for the game of basketball. Our Lady Tigers lead the Frontier League in a 4-1 record. The Lady Tigers are looking to finish the season strong with only 4 more league games left to play & 2 regular season games, a chance to bring home the league title, and prepare for playing in the CIF playoffs for the first time ever in school history. They are motivated to bring the first Title banner to our ECHS gym. Coming to our house is the heated rivalry between Sierra Madre Academy (Monday 1.28.08 @ 7pm) and then another barn burner between Calvin Christian (Friday 2.1.08 @ 4pm). The Lady Tigers finish the season away @ Preuss (Tuesday 2.12.08 @ 4:30 pm) and prep for the playoffs!
Junior guard Amelia Philbin leads all scorers with 192 points total for the season. Freshman guard Natasha Keyser has 166 points, Junior guard Samantha Budvarson has 125 points, and Senior guard Sophie Robinson has 117 total points for the season. Senior forward Natasha Barrios leads the team in steal with 35 for the season. Junior center Amy "Baby Shaq" Morely leads the team in rebounds and 19 blocked shots! The rest of the Lady Tigers are improving in their key roles as Senior center Jessica Gavin gathers rebounds, picks up the trash (missed shots) and is learning to score with a vengeance. Senior forward Sofiyah Kadoura is also improving in her tenacious defense and rebounding. Freshman forward Nicole Van Otterloo has the team excited when she rips girls away, fighting for rebounds, and then looks down court for pin point passes to her teammates.
The Lady Tigers would like to thank all of you who come and support their games. Thanks to the parents, students, faculty and to the ECHS Cheerleaders for gettin' the crowds R O W D I E during the games. Thanks Coach Jay Luce

This past weekend the girls won their first tournament in Escondido Charter High school history and defeated Canyon Crest 42-39 in overtime. The Lady White Tigers at one point in the game, were losing by as much as 20 points. But, they kept chipping away at the score and did not give up hope. Senior Center #14 Jessica Gavin & Freshman Guard #1 Natasha Keyser had key last second baskets to tie the game in regulation. Then, in overtime Freshman Forward #2 Nicole Van Otterloo brought down a key rebound that switched the momentum towards the Lady White Tigers. Nicole said, "I was not going to let her get that ball and I was not going to let my team lose". Captain Junior Guard #4 Samantha Budvarson and Junior Forward #5 Amelia Philbin added a bucket each to put the Lady White Tigers up for good. We can't express how proud of these young ladies we are as coaches and how much fun it was!!!

Tonight we defeated Maranatha Eagles in our first league game, crushing them 52-18. Junior Forward #5 Amelia Philbin had 15 points and Freshman Guard #1 Natasha Keyser had 8 points. It was the Eagles first basketball game and head Coach Chris Keyser had the girls slow the game down to have the girls learn about good sportsmanship and not running up the score.

Next up, the heated rivalry against San Diego Jewish Academy at our house this Thursday 12.20.07 @ 4pm. We urge the Escondido Charter current students, teachers, alumni and parents to please come support our Lady White Tigers as they try to stay undefeated on our home court.

Thanks ~ Coach Luce
