CHARTER NOTES
Thursday and Friday, January 11 to January 12, 2007
Week 1
Holiday:
Monday, January 15 marks Martin Luther King Jr’s. birthday and is
a national holiday. Therefore, school will be closed on Monday. Enjoy
the long weekend.
Independent Study PE (TCP):
All students who were assigned ISPE for the first semester are also assigned
ISPE for the second semester (unless reassigned to the PE class or otherwise
excused by Mr. Grady). New ISPE contracts are required and must be completed
– signed and submitted – by Tuesday, January 16, 2007. To
start the contracts, all freshmen assigned ISPE should meet with Mrs.
Lasley at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow (January 9) in the Student Union; all sophomores,
juniors, and seniors assigned ISPE should meet at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday
(January 10) in Room F203. Remember, completed ISPE contracts are due
by Tuesday, January 16!
Parents Mark Your Calendars:
The next Parent Advisory Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 23,
at 7:00 p.m. in the library. This is sure to be a very informative meeting,
as we will have Steve Schroeder of Steve Schroeder Financial Services,
speaking on college financial planning. So, if you have a high school
student, this meeting will provide useful information. See you there!
SAT PREP:
ECHS will offer an SAT Prep class after school from 3:05 p.m. to 4:30
p.m. beginning Thursday, February 1. The course meets every Thursday and
consists of eight sessions to help students prepare for all three sections
of the SAT Reasoning Test: critical reading, mathematics, and writing
skills. Interested students must sign up with Mr. Takagi in room E100.
Students are required to purchase materials for the course. Since space
is limited, juniors will have priority enrollment. If you have any questions,
please contact Mr. Takagi.
Driver’s Ed Course Sign-Up:
Those students interested in signing up for Driver’s Education please
stop by Mr. Waterhouse’s room (C101) and pick up a registration
form. The class covers the book portion of Driver’s Education and
prepares you to take the DMV test for your permit. You must have turned
15 years old on or before November 15, 2006, and you must have and maintain
a 2.5 GPA to be in the class. Class will meet every Monday afternoon from
3:05 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Class starts January 22, 2007. Space is limited
to the first 20 qualified students.
Senior Exhibition (TCP):
Seniors are reminded that the Senior Exhibition is rapidly approaching.
Three months of preparation time remain. You should have completed your
college essay, college application, post-graduation plan and letter of
recommendation for your portfolio and started thinking about your presentation.
Please note that your resume is due to your mentor on February 2.
Winter Sports Pep Assembly:
There will be a winter sports pep assembly on Wednesday, January 24, during
lunch on the commons. Come out and meet the members of each winter sports
team and get fired up with the White Tiger cheerleaders! Go ECHS White
Tigers!
Textbooks (TCP):
All TCP and Blended students are reminded that all of your textbooks must
have your name inside the front cover and have a book cover. Remember,
textbooks are very expensive and must be paid for by the student if lost
or damaged.
Photo Club:
With the new semester comes a new redesigned, more efficient and interactive
Photo Club. The photo club meets every Wednesday from 3:00 pm. to 4:00
pm. Join us for fun games and contests! Learn new camera and editing techniques,
and help us plan exciting field trips! The first meeting is Wednesday,
January 17 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in room G-103. If you have any
questions, please speak with Mr. Darrough.
Prom:
Seniors and juniors, come join the Prom Committee in Mrs. Soule’s
room (C102) every Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
CSF:
If you had good grades last semester, apply for CSF, California’s
premiere scholastically-based scholarship organization! Freshmen may apply
for associate membership this semester. For information about CSF, see
Ms. Rittenhouse or any experienced member. Applications are due by 1:00
p.m. on January 19.
NHS:
The first NHS meeting of the new semester will be held next Tuesday, January
16, at 12:30 pm in F-203. Officers are requested to meet this week. See
Ms. Rittenhouse to sign up for community service at Town & Country.
Relay for Life:
The fourth annual Escondido Relay for Life, which benefits the American
Cancer Society, is coming up! Teams are now forming! See Claire Brooks,
Stephen Miller, or Caleb Stanton for more information.
Internship Opportunity:
Are you interested in science and medicine? Would you like a paid internship?
The Scripps Research Institute’s High School Student Research Educational
Program is providing an internship for juniors and seniors. The purpose
of the program is to expose students to a variety of contemporary issues
in basic biomedical research. Students must be either a junior or senior
with at least a 3.0 GPA. The application deadline is March 3, 2007. If
you are interested in becoming an intern, please see Mr. Grady after school.
White Saw:
The White Saw DVD will be available for purchase on Friday, January 19
during lunch. Please have exact change ($6) to purchase your DVD. Get
it while you can!
