Escondido Charter High School
"Education Is Our Business"
CHARTER NOTES
Thursday and Friday, February 15 to February 16, 2007
Week 6
Correction:
The senior exhibition deadlines reported in the last Charter Notes were
inaccurate. Seniors are advised to begin working on their presentation
outline, due February 23, and personal story section of the portfolio,
due March 9. See your mentor for details.
Financial Aid Reminder:
All seniors are reminded to submit the FAFSA and GPA Verification Forms
by the March 2 deadline. These forms determine your eligibility to receive
federal and state financial assistance to attend a four-year university,
community college, or vocational school. Use the handouts distributed
in your English class for assistance.
Community Service:
ECHS expects all students to complete a minimum four hours of community
service each semester. All hours must be reported on a community service
record form available in the Main Office.
To All Parents:
WE NEED YOU! The 2007 PAB/Athletic Fundraiser is September 29, 2007. Committees
are being formed, and we are looking to involve as many parents as possible.
All levels of commitment are available. Anyone interested in helping or
anyone who has fundraising expertise is invited to e-mail Patti Navarro
at navarrofive@cox.net by February 21.
Board of Directors:
The ECHS Board of Directors will have an opening for a Community-member/Parent-member,
beginning April 2007. The Escondido Charter High School Board of Directors
is now actively seeking to fill this position. Interviews will be conducted
during the March 21 meeting. The selected applicant will be sworn in during
the April 18 Board Meeting. If you are interested in this position, please
see Ms. Escalona/Traditional Classroom Program or Lora Dann/Executive
Secretary for an application. The deadline to turn in the application
is March 12, 2007.
Teen Awareness Academy:
The Escondido Police Department will host a Teen Police Awareness Academy
beginning Wednesday, February 21. The purpose of the seven-week academy
is to provide high school students who have an interest in law enforcement
with the opportunity to learn more about the different facets of law enforcement,
including patrol theory and method, crime scene investigation, drugs and
alcohol enforcement, SWAT and K-9 units, gangs and graffiti, and ethics
and Explorer Programs. Because space is limited, students must complete
an application, be interviewed, and complete a background check. To be
eligible for the program, students must also have at least a 3.0 and be
in good academic standing. Interested students can pick up an application
from Mr. Galindo in the Main Office.
Bowling:
If you purchased tickets for bowling night, remember to attend tomorrow,
February 16, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
at AMF Eagle bowling lanes in San Marcos. Make sure to attend as you don't
want to leave your love in the gutter.
New Scholarship postings:
Please stop by the college bulletin board in the library for new scholarship
information. Categories include good driving, medical related fields,
San Diego County good citizenship, Republican women, women in the construction
field, North County Times student of merit, and many others. Please see

Scholars Program. Research opportunities are available in the biological
and natural sciences for current juniors and sophomores. Each student
will work as part of a research team on an individual research project
aligned with their scientific interests. An informational meeting will
take place at the San Diego County Office of Education on Tuesday, February
