Week 8

ISPE (TCP):
ISPE logs are due. Logs will not be accepted after Wednesday. All ISPE logs, essays, and contracts should be placed in the basket in the Library!

Financial Aid Reminder:
All seniors are reminded to submit the FAFSA and GPA Verification Forms by the March 2 deadline. These forms determine your eligibility to receive federal and state financial assistance to attend a four-year university, community college, or vocational school. Use the handouts distributed in your English class for assistance.

WASC Visit:
A team representing the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is visiting ECHS this week. In order to evaluate ECHS for accreditation, the team will visit classrooms and meet with staff, students, and parents. The committee will report its findings to the ECHS community on Wednesday, February 28 at 3:00 p.m. in the library.

Freshmen Note:
ECHS will conduct physical fitness testing for all freshmen during the week of March 5. Because physical fitness testing is required by the State of California, all ECHS freshmen are required to participate in the assessment. TCP students will be tested after school from 3:05 p.m. to 4:05 p.m. TCP students have been assigned a specific testing day according to the first letter of their last name as scheduled bellow:

Monday A-F
Tuesday G-R
Wednesday S-Z
Thursday Make-Up Day

AP Exams:
Juniors and seniors taking AP Exams this year are reminded a $13 deposit for each exam is due no later than Friday, March 2. Bring your payment, cash (exact change) or check made payable to ECHS, to your AP teacher. Exams will only be ordered for those students who submit the deposit by the deadline. Note: The remaining $70 balance will be due no later than Friday, April 20.

SAT PREP:
ECHS will offer a second SAT Prep class after school from 3:05 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, April 10. The course meets every Tuesday and consists of eight sessions to help students prepare for all three sections of the SAT Reasoning Test: critical reading, mathematics, and writing skills. Interested students must sign up with Ms. Duncan in the ILP building. Students are required to purchase materials for the course. Since space is limited, juniors will have priority enrollment. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Duncan.

Parent Advisory Meeting:
Parents are invited to attend the next Parent Advisory Meeting on Tuesday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the library. There's a lot going on at our school so don't miss out on the important updates: Coach, regarding the gymnasium & performing arts theater; Mr. Roner, regarding school testing, the WASC visit, and other school updates; Mrs. McCrory, regarding scholarships; Mr. Brose, regarding athletics; & PAB updates. Important information about the 2007-2008 school year will be distributed as well. All parents are encouraged to attend this important meeting!

It’s Prom Time!
2007 Prom Tickets are going on sale sooner than anticipated. Come buy them at lunch starting March 5-9 for the low price of $50. Prices go up to $60 on March 19. You won’t want to miss this night to remember.

Seniors:
Senior class sweatshirts will be sold for the low price of $35.00 until Wednesday, February 28. Order forms are available in your English class and should be returned with payment to Mrs. Soule (C102). Profits from the sale of the sweatshirts benefit this year’s prom. For more information, see Trisha Frulla or Salome Dominguez. Be part of the fun and order your sweatshirt before it’s too late!

San Diego National College Fair:
Mark your calendars now for the San Diego National College Fair. The fair will be held at the San Diego Convention Center on Wednesday, April 18. Further information will be posted in the near future.
Reserve Your Lunch: The lunch special for March 2 is lasagna with green salad and dinner roll. Please sign up before February 28. In addition, new beverages are available, including chocolate milk, hot chocolate, hot tea, and milk.


Community Service:

ECHS expects all students to complete a minimum four hours of community service each semester. All hours must be reported on a community service record form available in the Main Office.
JSA Debate: JSA presents a debate between Mr. Webber and Ms. Lansing. The topic debated will be US involvement in Vietnam. This debate will take place in Mr. Webber's room, C201, on March 6 at 3:00 p.m. Come and join the fun.
JSA Convention: Would you like to debate with the top students in California? Do you want to experience politics first hand? Then sign up for to attend a 3-day J.S.A convention. Students will stay at the L.A.X Hilton hotel from April 20 to April 22. Contact Cortland Bobczynski for more information.
NHS: The next NHS meeting will be held Tuesday, February 27 at 12:30 p.m. in F-203.

Chess Club:
Due to the WASC visit there will be no Chess Club meeting on Monday, February 26.

Girls’ Soccer Awards:
The Girls’ Soccer Awards banquet will be held on Tuesday, February 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the Student Union. All players and their parents are invited to attend. Please contact Coach Torres or Coach Page for more information. Congratulations on a great season!

Wrestling Awards:
The wrestling awards banquet will be held on Wednesday, February 28 at 6:00 p.m. in the Student Union. All wrestlers and their parents are invited to attend. Please contact Coach Brose or Coach Grady for more information. Congratulations on a great season!

Academic League:
This week’s match: Thursday, March 1, Poway @ ECHS, Library. Freshmen begin @ 6:30 p.m., JV begins @ 7:00 p.m., and Varsity begins @ 7:40 p.m. Go White Tiger academians!

Track Practice:
The track team will practice on Monday, 6:00 a.m.-7:30 a.m., Tuesday, 6:00 a.m.-7:30 a.m., Wednesday, 3:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m., and Friday, 3:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m. All students must submit their athletic handbook forms to Coach Wisden by Friday, March 2.
