Week 2
ISPE (TCP):
ISPE logs are due. Logs will not be accepted after Tuesday. All ISPE
logs and essays should be placed in the basket in the Library.
Independent Study PE Contracts (TCP):
New ISPE contracts are required and must be completed – signed
and submitted – by Tuesday, January 15, 2008. Blank ISPE contracts
are available in the library.
Honors Assembly (TCP):
An Honors Assembly to recognize our academic achievers from the first
semester will be held on Friday, January 18 n the Theater.
Note:
The modified schedule for Friday is below (scroll down). All teachers
are requested to ensure blended students are informed of the schedule
change.
Board Meeting:
The ECHS Board of Directors will meet on Wednesday, January 30 at 5:30
p.m. in the theater. The meeting will be followed by a lottery for students
interested in attending the Traditional Classroom Program next school
year. All parents are invited to attend.
Parents Note: If you have a student with a sibling who wants to attend
a classroom program in the Escondido Charter School District in August
2008, please ensure the student is on the appropriate lottery list (either
TCP for high school or Heritage K-8 for grades K through 8) and is noted
as the sibling of a currently enrolled student. To do this, please pick
up an application from the ECHS main office by January 15 (for TCP)
or February 6 (for Heritage K-8).
Parents Mark Your Calendars:
The next PAB meeting is on Tuesday, January 29 in the library. This
is one you won’t want to miss! The PAB has invited special guest
speakers who will provide information on financial planning for college.
More details will follow in the near future.
Senior Exhibition (TCP):
Seniors are reminded that the Senior Exhibition is rapidly approaching.
Three months of preparation time remain. You should have completed your
post-graduation plan, college essay, college application, and letter
of recommendation for your portfolio and started thinking about your
presentation. Please note that your resume is due to your mentor on
February 1.
Financial Aid:
Seniors interested in determining eligibility for federal and state
financial aid must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA) form. The priority deadline is March 2. The FAFSA must be filed
online and requires a pin number. Visit www.pin.ed.gov to register for
a pin number and www.fafsa.ed.gov to fill out the form online.
College Entrance Exams:
All juniors are reminded four year colleges and universities require
completion of the SAT Reasoning Test or ACT Exam with Writing as part
of the application process. The registration deadline for the March
1 SAT Reasoning Test is January 29. Visit www.collegeboard.com to register.
The registration deadline for the April 12 ACT Exam is March 7. Visit
www.actstudent.org to register. See Mrs. McCrory if you have questions.
RYLA Conference:
The Escondido Rotary Club is looking for ECHS juniors with demonstrated
and potential leadership skills to attend the 2008 Rotary Youth Leadership
Awards Conference scheduled for Friday, April 11 to Sunday April 13
in Idyllwild Pines. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to attend
an all expenses paid three day conference designed to develop and enhance
student leadership skills. Additional information and application materials
are available from Mrs. McCrory or Mrs. Endermann in the library. Applications
are due no later than Wednesday, January 23 at 3:00 p.m.
Looking For A Valentine?
This Valentine’s Day? Come down and sign up with Mr. Takagi this
week to see if you have what it takes to be a participant on one of
ECHS’ most exciting game shows! Make sure to sign up before Tuesday,
January 22.
SAT Prep Class:
If you would like to prepare for the SAT this spring, please sign up
with Mr. Takagi in Room E100 for the SAT Prep Class. The class will
meet on Thursdays from 3:05 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning Thursday, January
31. Registration is limited to the first 20 students who sign-up.
Relay for Life!
Cancer affects so many lives, yet you can help fund research and programs
to make the lives of those affected by cancer better. Relay for Life
is the American Cancer Society’s main fundraiser, and it’s

Driver’s Education (TCP):
Driver’s Education for this semester will start on January 24.
The course will be offered each morning during zero period on Thursdays
from 7:15 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. in room C-203. Student’s need
to be at least 15 ½ years of age by May 1, 2008 and you must
have and maintain a 2.5 GPA to be in the class in order to participate.
All students must see Mr. Webber in order to obtain a permission slip.
Space is limited to the first 20 qualified students.
For Freshmen Only!
Do you have an encyclopedic knowledge of subjects academic and arcane,
ordinary and outrageous? Do you pride yourself on your video gaming
reflexes? See how you can combine both of these talents by watching
the Academic League exhibition match on the commons this Thursday during
lunch. Each year, Freshman, JV and Varsity teams compete against other
North County high schools for seven Thursday night matches, beginning
on January 31. Practices are held twice weekly on Monday and Thursday
during lunch in Room C101. See Ms. Lansing, Freshman Coach, in Room
C202 for more details. Both introverts and extroverts are welcome!
Standouts:
It is time to vote for this year’s standouts for the yearbook.
Voting will take place on Thursday, January 17 during first period.

NHS:
NHS will meet on Tuesday, January 15, at 12:30 p.m. in F-203. Town and
Country service will resume that afternoon, as well.
CSF:
CSF application time is back! If you had good grades last semester,
you may qualify for California’s premiere scholastically-based
service club! If you are a past member, you need to reapply for this
semester. Applications are available in the library and in the Main
Office and must be returned to F-203 or the library by Friday, January
18. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Any student interested in joining the 2008 White Tiger track team please
