Week 6

President’s Day Holiday:
School will be closed on Monday, February 18 in observance of President’ Day Holiday. Enjoy the long weekend.

Parents Note:
If you have a student with a sibling who wants to attend the Heritage K-8 classroom program for grades K through 8 in August 2008, please ensure the student is on the lottery list and is noted as the sibling of a currently enrolled student. To do this, please pick up a Heritage K-8 lottery application from the ECHS main office by March 6.

Senior Exhibition:
Seniors are advised to begin working on their presentation outline, due February 22, and personal story section of the portfolio, due March 7. See your mentor for details.

Community Service:
An informational meeting for students interested in serving as mentors for 6th grade students at Hidden Valley or Del Dios Middle School will be held Thursday, February 14 at lunch (12:30 p.m.) in Room D202 (upstairs in the library). Mentors volunteer for one hour per week between the hours of 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. to help students with homework and serve as a positive role model. This is a great way to earn your community service hours and make a difference. Bring your lunch and find out if this program is right for you.

Financial Aid Reminder:
All seniors are reminded the priority filing deadline for the FAFSA, the form that determines eligibility for federal student aid is March 2. File your FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov and remember to register for a pin number to electronically sign your form at www.pin.ed.gov. Additionally, your Cal Grant GPA Information Release Form, which in combination with the FAFSA determines eligibility for state aid, is due no later than Friday, February 22. TCP seniors should submit the release form to Mrs. McCrory or Mrs. Endermann. ILP seniors should submit the release form to their Teacher of Record.

Job Opportunity:
The San Diego Wild Animal Park is hiring merchandise service clerks and food service clerks. The food service job fair will be held on Thursday, February 21 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The merchandise service job fair will be held on Saturday, February 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Interested students should pick up a flyer in the library or main office for detailed application and interview instructions.

Blood Drive:
The ECHS blood drive will be held on Wednesday, February 27 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Please signup in the Main Office. The Main Office will also have fliers with the requirements to donate blood and a permission slip. All ECHS students must have a permission slip signed by their parent. If you are interested in helping with the blood drive, please see Ms. Wood in the ILP building by Wednesday, February 20. Thanks for your support!

Chargers Champions Scholarship for Juniors:
The Chargers Champions scholarship is designed to recognize and reward outstanding San Diego County juniors who are making a difference in their school and community. Winners receive a $7,000 scholarship and laptop computer. Detailed information and applications are available in the library. Deadline to apply is March 7.

Seniors and Juniors:
The prom committee is pleased to announce that prom will be on May 3, 2008. Get your guest passes from Mrs. Childs (C100) or your ILP packets from the main office and complete them prior to March so you can purchase your prom tickets at the lower price ($50). Beginning March 3, TCP students may purchase tickets from Mrs. Childs and ILP students may submit their packets to their teacher of record in order to purchase tickets.

Yearbook Dedications and Advertisements:
The deadline for senior dedications and/or advertisements in the yearbook is February 15. Students can pick up dedication form in the main office. Yearbooks are on sale for $65; students can pick up an order from the main office. Please return the dedications and the order forms to the main office.

Prom Committee:
Due to the festivities today at lunch in honor of Valentine’s Day, prom committee will not meet today. Please join us again next Thursday for our meeting in Mrs. Soule’s room (C102).

Attention all Teenage Republicans:
The California Primary is over and what will the Republicans do now? What happened to Mitt Romney? Come this Friday, February 15, during lunch to discuss these two questions and much more. See you in room C201 Friday at lunch.

NHS Applicants:
Complete applications are due today, February 14 at 3:00 p.m. No late applications will be accepted. Early applications are welcomed. Good luck!

Fun Zone:
This Friday, February 15, 4:00 -9:00 p.m., ECHS Gym/Theatre, Sponsored by the ECHS Softball Team. This event is for kids in grades K-6. Cost: $25.00 before February 10, and $30.00 after February 10. Be ready for an action packed night of fun, food, games, movies, face painting, and other activities. Pick up a Fun Zone information flyer at the main office.

Time to Exercise:
The ECHS weight room is open to all students from 3:05 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Basketball:
Congratulations to our Lady White Tiger Team for their awesome season. Their varsity record is 13-7, and the girls’ overall record is 19-7. Stay tuned as we await our first round opponent in the CIF playoffs. Go White Tigers!!!

Boys Soccer:
Today, February 14, Army/Navy Academy @ ECHS, 3:30 p.m. Go White Tigers!!!

Roller Hockey:
Next game: Today, February 14, ECHS vs. Escondido High School, 6:10 p.m., west rink of the Escondido Sports Center. Go White Tigers!!!

Spring Sports Behavior Expectation Assembly:
Tuesday, February 19, 3:30 p.m., American Spirit Theatre. All students and coaches who will participate in a spring sport are required to attend this assembly. We will discuss the eligibility requirements and the behavior expectations for being a White Tiger student-athlete. Contact Mr. Brose if you have any questions. Go White Tigers!!!

Baseball Team Tryouts:
If you are interested in being a member of the 2008 White Tiger baseball team, come to the tryouts on Saturday, February 16, 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., at the Del Dios Middle School field. You must bring all completed athletic handbook forms in order to try out. Wear baseball pants and shirt. Bring your hat, glove, and cleats. Questions? Contact Coach Stockton @ 760-207-1830. Softball Team Workouts:

Football players:
Pick up your 2008 athletic handbook from the front desk. All handbook forms must be submitted into Coach Rea by Friday, April 4, in order to participate in Spring training (May 12-May 16, and May 19-May 23). Go White Tigers!!!
