Week 14


STAR Testing (TCP):
California STAR testing for all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will take place Monday, April 21 through Thursday, April 24. The STAR consists of a series of exams in English, mathematics, social science, and science called the California Standards Tests (CST). TCP students will test in their first period classroom from 8:05 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. Students will then attend classes according to a modified bell schedule with dismissal at 2:55 p.m.
Note: The modified schedule is attached. TCP teachers are reminded to review the schedule with their Blended students.

Senior Exhibition (TCP):
Seniors are reminded that the Senior Exhibition is Friday, April 25. Seniors will work on their portfolios and presentations during the week of STAR testing. Students will report to a specific room each day during the testing period. On Monday, April 21 all seniors are to report to room D202 (library) at 8:05 a.m. Friday, April 25 is a non-student day for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students.
Note: On Tuesday, April 22, a guest speaker will work with the seniors to help them prepare their presentations. Students must report to the library on Tuesday for the presentation breakout session. Students should have the rough draft of their presentations ready to go by Tuesday!

Modified Schedule:
Wednesday, April 30 is a modified day with student dismissal at 1:55 p.m.
Note:
The teacher in-service will begin at 2:05 p.m. in the theater. The modified schedule for Wednesday is attached. All teachers are requested to ensure blended students are informed of the schedule change.

STAR Cookout:
All students are invited to attend the ECHS cookout to celebrate the completion of STAR testing on Thursday, May 1 during lunch.

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon:
All ILP and TCP teachers are invited to attend this year’s teacher appreciation luncheon on Friday, May 2. Friday will be a modified school day with student dismissal at 1:05 p.m.
Note: The schedule is attached. All teachers are requested to ensure blended students are informed of the schedule change.

Choir:
ECHS is looking to increase participation in choir, an elective offered during regular school hours and a course that satisfies the one year fine art graduation and college entrance requirements. Taking choir is a great opportunity to learn about music theory, gain valuable experience performing, and contribute to your school. If you are a returning student who likes to sing, whether you have experience or not, consider joining the ECHS choir. See Mrs. McCrory ASAP to determine if choir fits in your schedule.

AP Exam Deposit:
AP Exam balance payment of $71 per exam is due no later than Thursday, April 24. Submit payment, cash (exact change) or check made payable to ECHS to Mrs. McCrory or Mrs. Endermann in the library. Only students who submit the final balance payment by the deadline will be permitted to take the exams in May.

Performing Arts’ Special Production:
Students, parents, and friends – you will not want to miss the world high school premier of the play, “Wit’s End,” to be performed April 17, 18, and 19 in the American Spirit Theater. This play comes from the Golden Age of Spanish Literature and features some very modern themes. It is very funny and invites audience participation. Tickets are $8.00 for adults, $5.00 for students, with a special matinee price of $4.00. Times are 7:15 p.m. all three evenings, with the Saturday matinee taking place at 2:00 p.m. Don’t miss it.


Campaign Interns:

Bob Watkins, Republican candidate for Congress, is seeking students to serve as campaign interns. Interns will work with the campaign and media relations teams plus, gain experience in grassroots campaigning. Spaghetti Dinner:
Support the Girl's Softball team by participating in this year's spaghetti dinner/fundraiser on Friday, May 9, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., in the Student union. The cost is $10 per person and $30 per family. Tickets can be purchased from your favorite softball player or call Laura Geist at 619-885-6552(C) 760-781-3379(h). Tickets will also be sold at the door. Following the dinner there will be a PAB sponsored movie night on the soccer field.

Gotta dirty car?
Support Relay for Life by coming to the carwash sponsored by Team Scotch Tape on Saturday, April 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at ECHS. We stick it to cancer!

Choir Concert:
Our annual spring choir concert will take place on April 25 at 7:15 pm in the American Spirit Theater. This concert will feature music from the Renaissance to the Modern Era, including Broadway. Additionally, we will feature vocal and instrumental numbers in addition to choral pieces. Admission is a suggested $5.00 donation at the door for everyone.

Grad Night 2008 (TCP):
Seniors, save the date!!!! Grad Night 2008 – California Cruisin’ will take place at the ECHS American Spirit Theater and Gym on Friday, May 30 from 11:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. We are working with a party company to make this a high energy, exciting night for all the TCP Grads. The theme will be classic cars, surf boards, 50’s and 60’s, beach retro. More information will follow and ticket sales will be announced at the end of April.

Seniors and Juniors:
Prom tickets are no longer available at lunch. All TCP purchases must be made with Mrs. Childs in C100, and all ILP students still must submit their ticket requests to their teachers of record in order to purchase tickets. Tickets will be sold for $70 each until April 30, but students who do not purchase their tickets by April 18 may not be eligible for the Prom Court since voting will take place during the week of April 28-May 2. Please make checks payable to ECHS ASB. If you are bringing a guest, you must have a completed guest pass prior to purchasing your guest’s ticket.

Civil Air Patrol:
Those students wishing to sign up for Charter's Civil Air Patrol Cadet Squadron 714 see the uniformed cadets with sign-up forms Thursday, April 17, at lunch.

Chess Tournament:
The Third Annual ECHS Chess Tournament will take place on Tuesday, April 29 and Wednesday, 30. Prizes will be awarded. Sign up with Michael Dentoni or in the Main Office today.

Young Republicans:
What is your position on immigration, the war in Iraq and the death penalty? Come and discuss these topics and more at the next meeting of the Young Republicans on Thursday, April 17 at 12:00 p.m. in room C201.

Prom Committee:
Due to the Air Band Competition, there will be no prom meeting this week.

Seniors:
In honor of Senior Exhibition, Senior Sweatshirts will be sold for $28 (20% off the total price) during the week of April 21-24. There are only a few left, so come get your sweatshirt while supplies last. Sweatshirts will be sold every day in Mrs. Childs’ room (C100) or in front of the library during lunch on Wednesday and Thursday (4/23-4/24).

NHS:
Next Tuesday, April 15, will be a meeting for club officers only. All old and new officers are requested to meet in F-203 during lunch.

CSF:
The next club meeting will be on Tuesday, April 22.

Relay for Life Team Members:
There are 12 days left until Relay! Now is the time to get luminaria ordered! Come to F203 on Monday after school to decorate luminaria bags!

Girl’s Soccer:
ECHS is still missing some soccer uniforms. If you have not turned in your uniform, please give it to Coach Torres or Coach Page. We need to complete our soccer uniform inventory.
