Thursday and Friday, September 3 to September 4, 2009

Week 4

Parking Permits: All students parking a car at school must register or re-register their vehicle and obtain a parking permit prior to September 4. Registration forms may be picked up at the Main Office. A parking permit will be issued when the registration form is completed and returned to the Main Office. After September 4, vehicles without a parking permit will be given one warning and then fined $12.

PSAT Registration: The 2009 PSAT will be held on Wednesday, October 14. Registration is limited to the first 100 students who sign up. Juniors have priority registration from August 31 – September 11. Registration will be open to sophomores beginning September 14. To register, bring your $13 payment, cash (exact change) or check made payable to ECHS, to Mrs. McCrory or Mrs. Endermann in the Library.

Attention All House Members: The first House meetings for all members, including those sorted last week, will be this Friday at lunch! The meetings for each House will be held in the classroom of the Head of House, as listed below:
Excelsior: Mrs. Brown’s room, F200
Conor: Mr. Waterhouse’s room, C101
Halcyon: Mr. Panlasigui’s room, G103
Sideris: Mr. Endermann’s room, F100
Please bring your lunch and come prepared to find out about your House and the exciting year ahead of us!

Patriot Day Assembly: There will be an assembly on Friday, September 11, to commemorate Patriot Day. All students and staff are requested to assemble in the theater at 2:00 p.m. for the ceremony.
Note: The modified bell schedule for the Patriot Day assembly is attached.

SAT Registration: The deadline to register for the October 10 SAT and SAT Subject Tests is next Wednesday, September 9. Visit www.collegeboard.com to register and select your test center location. Seniors must have all standardized tests required for admission completed no later than December.

ACT Registration: The deadline to register for the October 24 ACT Test is Friday, September 18. Register and select your test center location online at www.actstudent.org.

Charterian Lives! The first edition of Charterian is under production. If you would like to be involved in the second
and all subsequent editions, please come by Mr. Waterhouse’s class, C101, at the beginning of lunch on Thursday, September 3, for a brief informational meeting.

Attention All Students! Come to the 2009 Alumni-Staff Play! On September 11 and 12, at 7:00 p.m., the ECHS Alumni Association and ECHS faculty are performing "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940". Entrance fee is only $5.00 a person! Come watch your teachers and former classmates in this murder-mystery parody! The event is a fundraiser for the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. For more information, see Mr. Panlasigui or Mr. Endermann. See you at the play!

School Photographs (TCP): School pictures (for yearbook and ID cards) and individual photos (for personal use) will be taken Thursday, September 10 during school. If you would like to purchase individual photos, the order forms (with payment) must be returned on Thursday (picture day), before you get your picture taken. Order forms will be distributed in first period classes this week. Please note: There is no makeup day.

Les Miserables: Broadway Theatre Arts Academy proudly presents Les Miserables. Performances will take place on September 3, 4, and 5, and September 10, 11, and 12, at 8:00 p.m. at Kit Carson Park Amphitheatre. Come see Escondido Charter High School graduates and students shine on stage. See the flyers posted in the display cases for more details.
Guest Presentation: The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) will be giving two different presentations in the theater on September 15. The 5th period “Discover Your Creative Abilities” seminar will explore right and left brain thinking and seeing. Through visual exercises you will learn to see creatively and understand your innate creative abilities. The 6th period “Design and the Entertainment Industry” seminar explores the role of design in the entertainment industry and various related careers. See Mrs. McCrory to sign up for these presentations no later than September 11.

Recycle: Please dispose of your bottles and cans in the blue recycling bins located throughout the campus.
Marine Science Club: Attention surfers, beach bums and all those interested in the ocean! Come to the first ever Marine Science Club meeting Thursday, September 10, at lunch in Room F104. We'll discuss possible field trips, ways to earn your community service hours, hot topics in marine biology, and other benefits available to members. If you cannot make the club meeting, but are interested in participating in a Marine Science Academic League style tournament, please come to an informational meeting to help form Charter's first National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) team Monday, September 14, after school in Room F104.
CAP: Due to a scheduling conflict, CAP has been moved to Wednesday for the first two weeks in September. Orientation flights are being scheduled. Make sure to get your paperwork turned in to reserve your time.

Cross Country: Practice is Monday through Friday, 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Contact Coach Panek at 715-2794 if you have any questions. Go White Tigers!!

Football: Thursday, September 3, JV vs. Crawford High School, 3:30 p.m. TCP early release time 1:30 p.m. The bus will leave at 1:45 p.m. TCP students released early must sign out in the Main Office. Friday, September 4, Varsity vs. Foothills Christian at Jr. Seau Park, 7:00 p.m. The bus will leave at 4:30 p.m. Please contact Coach Brose at 760-737-3154, ext. 148, or by email at gbrose@echs.org, if you have any questions. Girls Volleyball: Tuesday, September 8 at San Marcos High School. JV start time: 3:30 p.m. Varsity start time: 5:00 p.m. TCP early release time for JV will be at 2:15 p.m. Practice is Monday through Friday - JV 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. and Varsity 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Optional practice time will be held Monday through Friday 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. (JV) and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. (Varsity) for players who are not in tutorial. Girls Golf: Girls interested in playing golf, you can still sign up! Practice is Monday through Thursday, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. @ Twin Oaks GC in San Marcos. All home league matches will be held at Twin Oaks GC. Don’t forget to pick up your Athletic Handbook in the ECHS Main Office – these must be turned in prior to participation! Fall Baseball: Interested in playing Fall Baseball? Go to www.ecll.org (Escondido Youth Baseball) to register for the 18 and under White Tigers. Cost is $100. Practice will start next week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Del Dios Middle School from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Games will be on Saturdays/Sundays. Contact Coach Myron Stockton at 207-1830 if you have any questions.

Swim Informational Meeting: Interested in being part of our spring 2010 Swim Team? Bring your parents and come to this important informational meeting on Thursday, September 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Union. We will discuss expectations for the season.
