Week 5

End of First Grading Period (TCP): The end of the third grading period is Friday, February 5. Progress reports will be handed out before school on Wednesday, February 10. Any progress reports not picked up will be promptly mailed.

FAFSA: The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) determines eligibility to receive financial assistance to attend college. Seniors pursuing post-secondary education during 2010-2011 should submit a completed FAFSA no later than March 2. Visit www.fafsa.gov to access the online application.

Haiti Fund: We’ve decided to extend the competition for one more week. The jars from every first period will be collected on Friday, February 5. Thank you to everyone who has already donated. Remember, you can donate online as well! Let’s meet our goal of $1,000.

Prom: We are pleased to announce that Prom 2010 will be held in the American Spirit Theater on May 1, 2010. Cost of tickets will range from $30-$40 depending on the purchasing date. Additional information will be included in future Charter Notes. We look forward to seeing all of you there.

Attention All House Members: Friday at lunch, we shall be having our first Presidents Race. Dress like your favorite president and run the “presidential experience” obstacle course. Have fun! Win valuable house points!

Elementary School Volunteer Program: Need community service hours? ECHS Key Club volunteers at North Broadway Elementary School every Wednesday from 3:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Even if you aren’t a member of Key Club, you can still sign up and help out. Talk to Mrs. Dunlap in E200 if you are interested.

NHS: The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 9, at 12:30 in F203. At that meeting, we will be planning the induction ceremony to be held March 3. All members will be expected to attend. Wear your T&C shirts for a treat.

NHS Applications: If you received an invitation to apply for NHS, but did not turn in 10 hours of community service last semester you may still be eligible for membership. Service that does not count or was not submitted for school credit may count toward your 10 hours. Consider all of the great work you do, and let us hear about it! Applications are due in F203 by February 9. Also, be sure to give your teachers time to complete their questionnaires.

Community Service: If you received a community service T-shirt, wear it on Tuesdays. You may be rewarded!

Town & Country: You can earn 2 hours of community service every Tuesday. Town & Country, a project in which groups of students do yard work for elderly residents of a local mobile home park, continues this spring. See Mrs. Rea for details and a permission slip.

CAP: Thursday, February 4 is a special meeting, as it is our awards ceremony. Press your blues and plan to be there!

Baseball: Tryouts will be held on Saturday, February 20, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., at Del Dios Middle School. Don’t forget to pick up an Athletic Handbook in the ECHS Main Office – they must be turned in prior to try-outs! Any questions, contact Coach Stockton at (760) 207-1830.

Football: Weight lifting maxes are coming the week of February 8-February 11! If you are going to play football during the 2010 season, come and see how much weight you can lift in bench press, inclined bench press, power cleans, and squats.
