Welcome to the Junior State of America (JSA)
On high school campuses across the country, there are students concerned
with what is happening around them -- students who are interested in politics
and government, foreign affairs, the law, and education. The Junior State
of America (JSA) was created by and for these students. In a world of
endless problems and conflicting opinions, the art of debate is a very
valuable tool. J.S.A recognizes this and makes debate an integral part
of its program.
What makes JSA so unique is that students organize every aspect of organization,
all the way from the chapter level to state and national administration.
The student leaders, elected by their fellow JSA members, plan and execute
all of the conventions, conferences, and political awareness events held
by the Junior State.
By becoming part of JSA, students will develop effective leadership skills
at school and have the opportunity of attending overnight debate conventions.
Members also have the opportunity to attend The Junior Statesmen Summer
School which offers a challenging, dynamic academic experience for students
with a passion for politics and government. This takes place during the
summer, where 1500 outstanding high school students converge on the campuses
of Stanford, Yale, Princeton, Georgetown, and Northwestern Universities
to immerse themselves in politics and debate.
The club meets on Tuesdays from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm. For those who are inexperienced
in the field of debate the club would be a great opportunity to improve
on necessary debate, and public speaking skills.
